WebDowntown Port Hope is the heritage district of the town. The first settlers to the town arrived in 1793 and expanded to 1500 people by 1834, when it was incorporated. It was the first town recognized along the lake between Toronto and Kingston. Many of the buildings in this area date back to the mid-1800's and are steeped in history.
